Reflecting on the tragic mayhem of the Altamont free concert in 1969 at which a man trying to climb to the stage was attacked and killed by members of the Hell's Angels, Sandy Darlington, a writer for the Good Times Commune in San Francisco, said of her generation back in 1970 -- "We've been coddled, treadmilled, straight-teethed and vitamin-pilled, but we don't know what to do on our own. ... We don't like the power structure. But we have to live together. We will be governed by others until we learn to govern ourselves."
